On
Saturday, February 18th, 2006, at the insistence of son Jason, Carrie
entered the Auctioneer's Association of Ontario Auctioneering Championship
held in Mississauga. She competed with Ontario auctioneers from Cornwall
to Thunder Bay. Carrie, as one of the top five auctioneers in
the first round, was called to the second round of the contest where
she tied for first overall with Luke Passmore from St. Catherines.
These two were called upon to compete one more time. Brent Shackleton,
outgoing President of the Auctioneer's Association of Ontario announced
that the result was "a hair's difference in overall points"
with Carrie achieving the first runner up award. Five judges marked
the contestants on presentation, selling skills, chants, clarity, speed,
rhythm & timing.
This was the first time in the history of the competition that a female has made it the top five and then
of course to the "dead heat final"of the top two.
